Dear Laura,
I just “found” you via Bob Olson as he was our guest host tonight in the James Van Praagh chat room…thru the links provided to his sites, I then found your column. 2 years ago I had a horrible loss. My grief led me to learning about spiritual visits, connections, etc. I was very fortunate to find a gifted and authentic reader. I had a wonderful reading and am so grateful for that…but feel I am now dependant upon my medium. I look forward to getting readings to connect to my loved one and understand that it is not good to have this dependency.

I want so very much to be able to connect to my loved one by myself without the help or dependency of a medium, but until I can learn how to do this myself I must depend on someone else to do it for me. I want to SEE, to HEAR, to be able to receive messages from my loved one in the same way a medium would.. is this possible? Or do I simply just have to be content with any signs that are sent that my loved one is with me? Do you have any thoughts on how I can make this happen???

I understand meditation is a big part of this but I am not able to relax enough to focus on it, my mind actually goes to other things such as chores, etc. Any and all help you can give me will be heartfelt. I thank God for you and others like you, that you have this gift to help us who are in such deep pits of grief and sadness.
Love and Light, Lori

Dear Lori, I am sorry for your loss. Your letter covers quite a few different issues. First, I am thrilled that you have had positive results from a gifted and authentic reader. For those people still looking for such, visit BestPsychicMediums.com and find the person best suited to your needs. Bob Olson, the site’s founder, was a former skeptic and private investigator who wanted to help others find the genuine help and insight they needed. This site benefits thousands and thousands around the globe.

Second, many people find regular comfort in mediumship readings (conveying messages to clients from the departed). For some people it is a regular appointment, no different a necessity than a haircut, dental checkup, or oil change for their car. For others, it is a one time or random appointment, and for others, like yourself, there is a desire to move and grow in yet another direction. All of these scenarios are okay, since there is no right or wrong way to grieve.

Third, for some, desiring to go to the next step is a natural part of their growth and grieving process. Everyone is wired for a form of intuition, but not everyone cares to access it or identify it. In my book, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Divining the Future, I talk about many different forms of intuition and walk you through exercises to see how your own innate wiring is set up. Some people are wired for telepathy, others for clairsentience, others for mediumship, others for body intuition, and so on. If you aren’t naturally ‘wired’ for mediumship, that can be a hurdle-but it doesn’t necessarily mean that it can’t be done, it just means you have to work more to learn the language and adjust to the frequency.

You mention’ just having to be content with any signs that are sent that my loved one is with me’ in a way that makes it sound as if this plethora of miraculous synchronicities is some sort of lesser consolation prize to mediumship. Let me assure you, it is most definitely not! Please do not trivialize the power of receiving these signs and blessings, and their profound impact on our daily lives. If ‘all you ever got’ was signs, you would still be immeasurably blessed!

Fourth, meditation is a great way to step out of the ego driven mind and into the space where loved ones, healing and more can reach us. There are many different kinds of meditation-some easier to use and see results with than others. Guided meditation is the easiest form for most of us. I recommend my new CD, Higher Purpose, that is part of my Ancient Stardust Tools for Change CD Series. The Higher Purpose CD was designed to lead you through a mind walk journey that’s filled with opportunities to connect with angels, spirit guides, animal totems and more. A powerful phenomena has been taking place during this meditation-deceased loved ones are coming to visit with participants throughout this fascinating journey. The feedback to my office has been overwhelming and deeply moving. Start practicing with the CD and it will help you to ‘condition’ your intuitive muscles, as well as provide a portal through which you can speak with your loved ones on The Other Side. The soothing music will transport you into an altered state and you will feel deeply relaxed and re-energized when done.

Fifth, record your meditation experiences in your journal so you can watch your progress unfold. You are keeping a journal – right? The Ancient Stardust Progress Journal is ideal for this type of spiritual work.

Sixth, relax. Expectations can clog up the channels where Divine connection flows. Shift your expectation and embrace the awesome power of those Divine moments I mentioned in step 3. Good luck to you Lori!

Dear Laura,
What is reincarnation? Has everyone done it?
Curious

Hello Curious,

Reincarnation means rebirth of the soul into another body. One easy analogy for this is to liken your body to a car. When your car wears out, you get another one…and so too does the soul. We get just one body perincarnation (that’s why it’s so important to take care of it!).

Most people have experienced reincarnation, though there is often no conscious memory of it. I have had many clients ask me about this in session, sometimes wondering what their total incarnation number is (aka ‘how many past lives have I had?’). The important thing to know is quality, not quantity. Make the most of what you do in the here and now, and the ever after will be that much better when you get here.

Dear Laura,
I was wondering if you could explain to me what the difference is between spirit guides and angels? I also wanted to know if you ever let a disincarnate, which I was taught to have negative energy, channel through you?
Thanks, Elaine

Hello Elaine,

Spirit Guides and Angels are like different members of the same team, I like to use the example of ‘different branches of the same government’ in my lectures. If you relate more to angels than your spirit guides, don’t worry the guides do not take offense, and vice versa. The fact remains you still have a main guide, as well as a whole support team who help you.

To answer your other question, no. When I channel I do not allow any negative energy to come through-what would be the point of that? Negativity is already vibrating at a faster pace on earth. We need more positivity! Any reputable channel or medium understands the necessity for placing filters and such when they work. When people are desperate for ‘contact’ or inexperienced and experimenting it leaves room for negativity and mischievousness to come in. My advice is simple, don’t go there. If you feel you must, always wear your seat belt.

Dear Laura,
What happens to a person’s spirit when they are in a coma?
Angela

Hello Angela, They are in and out of the body, most of the time hanging out on The Other Side.

Dear Laura,
Sometimes I dream vivid dreams of a beautiful place in vivid technicolor. When I wake up I feel sad that the dream is over. What does this mean? What are these dreams trying to tell me? Why do I feel so sad to wake up?
K.

Hello K.,

You are on The Other Side in those vivid dreams. Some of the hallmarks of being on The Other Side in a dream are: that the dreams take place in a wonder-filled rosy light (similar to sunrise and sunset, although it is neither); the colors, sounds, textures and such are 100 times more intense and uplifting; and lastly, when you wake up, you feel homesick and sad, wishing you could have stayed in that beautiful , magical place longer.

You can begin to practice ‘conscious dreaming’ or ‘lucid dreaming’ by training yourself to recognize when you are on The Other Side during dream state and writing down your dreams in (I recommend the Ancient Stardust Progress Journal for it’s dream section and workbook qualities) the very moment you wake up, before the dream fades off. You may even want to write it down in the middle of the night, so make sure you keep your tools handy and in working order.

P.S. Try to notice to the familiar crowd around you in the rosy glow of those dreams, those are your spirit guides!

Dear Laura,
I’m very new to this having only lost my dear Dad nearly 4 weeks ago. Although I’m coping well to others, I write to my Dad on my PC every night telling him of the day’s events and my thoughts as we would have chatted when he was alive and it makes me feel better. I went to a Medium reading today but Dad didn’t mention he could “read” or “knew” of the letters and I’m left wondering whether he can or not, as the other information given from him was accurate about what’s been happening. Can you tell me if Spirits can see us, hear our voices/thoughts or read?
Yours hopefully, Irene R.

Dear Irene,

My heartfelt condolences over your loss. The answers to your questions are yes, yes/yes, and no. Grief is a very personal and unique process. Everyone finds their own way to cope and navigate as it makes sense to them. I think your ritual of continued communication is beautiful. Your father has only left his earthy body while his spirit continues to live on. He is aware of how you are doing and the events that concern you, however it’s not that he is specifically ‘reading your notes’ –more so, your thoughts. He knows you are writing to him because he often sits with you, to your left as you are clicking away. In time, if you choose to you can also train yourself to become more aware of his presence and listen for his responses. You might wish to bridge your beautiful nightly ritual into an ongoing conversation with him throughout the day. There is no right or wrong here. When you need your father to know something he is just a thought away. As you shift into different phases of grief and healing, you will find yourself touched by his responses, messages, and ‘hugs’ of synchronicity. Until then, be gentle with yourself Irene, this loss is very very new and you are doing the best that you can.
